Yesterday we traveled by train up to Göttingen for the Fulbright orientation. Göttingen is a located in the very center of Germany and is an old walled city. Today, it is one of Germany’s top centers for science and research. Even Ben Franklin spent a year here in 1766 studying and discussing his theories of electricity.
The town is also home to Göttingen Universität which was founded in 1734 and has been the host of over 40 Nobel Prize Winners during the last century.
After arriving, we went into the old section of town for a walking tour and dinner.
This morning, while the Fulbrighters were in meetings, the spouses and kids went to City Forest and Nature Preserve.
We had a great hike and saw a few hawks and local fallow deer, including this white stag.
During our hike, I learned some very interesting things about a few non-indigenous species from the U.S. that have been introduced to Europe and are causing some problems. My next blog post will delve into this.
